Bella's Room From Bella And The Bulldogs

After the game, members of Durango enter the Bulldogs' locker room, to apologize for Scully's behavior, and to tell Bella he only dug up that rule because he was scared of how good she was. The two teams play a touch football game on the Bulldogs' field, with Coach Russell and the cheerleaders from both teams watching. I really wanted Bella and the Bulldogs to be great. I really did. I would have settled for it to be good. But instead it’s more of the same.

I had high hopes for Nickelodeon’s newest live-action comedy, Bella and the Bulldogs the laugh track-backed story of a girl as she bolts from the sidelines to the headlines as the quarterback of her middle school football team.

  • Bella and Zach is the romantic pairing of Bella Dawson and Zach Barnes. The two first met in an ice cream shop after Bella trash-talked the Cobras. They wanted to date even though they were both on different teams that hated each other.
  • Bella and the Bulldogs: Trapped. They are trying to get the bullet out of her foot. I see my mom and Bella's mom run in to the emergency room. I stand up from the cold, hard, metal bench. My mom engulfs me in a hug but I push her away to talk to Bella's mom. 'Hi miss Dawson.' I say shaking her hand.

When I read the show’s logline, I imagined an opportunity for Nickelodeon to step away from the bouncy-haired starlets who make up its cavalry of talent and portray an athlete as someone who is actually athletic. Remember how football phenom Sam Gordon wowed the world with her amazing moves on the gridiron? She’s good, not simply, good for a girl. Mon’e Davis stole America’s hearts when she pitched brilliantly in the 2014 Little League World Series. But even if she was just a regular kid playing baseball, she would have been been inspiring not for playing well, but just for playing.I was hoping to see a TV character cut in the likeness of these two young women: an athlete — who happens to be female — but who is first and foremost a lover of, a hard-worker in, and an ambassador for sports.

In the series, which premieres with back to back episodes Saturday, Jan 17, head cheerleader Bella Dawson (newcomer Brec Bassinger, who shines despite the cliches she portrays) fulfills her lifelong dream of playing football and must try to fit in with her new male teammates while staying connected to her two best friends from the cheer squad.

It’s a storyline common in tween sitcoms; striking out and finding yourself while remaining loyal to who you are, but while Bella tries to be something for all girls to aspire to, it falls far short from being an ideal. And I’m not saying that the show isn’t entertaining — my two sons have enjoyed the episode that they watched — but I wish the message they were watching was more about good sports than good hair.

We’re told that Bella is a great athlete, but she spends more time tossing around her long, perfectly curled hair than she does a pigskin. Her clothes are ridiculous, consisting of high heels (even high heeled sneakers!) and dresses shorter than any dress code would allow. So kids are paradoxically being told that it’s okay to be “one of the guys” as long as you look like “one of the girls.” Why can’t a kid hang out with a kid and look like a kid?

Why, in the show, are cheerleaders treated as non-athletes? In reality, cheerleaders train with just as much intensity and athleticism as athletes in other sports, utilizing strength, flexibility and coordination. Why is the show taking away the accomplishments of its other female actors? Why is there only room for one of them to be a jock, yet plenty of room for the boys?

But possibly worst of all is the idea that for Bella, “making the team” is a one-and-done opportunity. The idea that a middle school sport like football would even have cuts assumes at all that viewers know nothing about football. The NFL has cuts, and so do most Division I football programs, but even in elite programs, there are literally dozens of backups standing around on the sidelines of those programs. Why are the stakes that much more black and white for Bella because she’s a girl? The smallest boy on the team mentions that he’s quit multiple times, but for Bella, if she’s not the starting quarterback, she’s “cut.” In what universe exists the concept that if you’re not the star, you’re out? Even if Bella was terrible (or even half as terrible as the other clods on the team,) she’d be a welcome addition. This is telling the wrong message to girls and boys; that you should only participate if you can be the star. Because let’s be honest, while Brec Bassinger may be athletic, the only boys on the show who look like athletes are the show’s extras.

So, what sets out to be inspiring ends up being insulting. Perhaps if Nickelodeon had sought insight from female athletes like Britney Griner, Mia Hamm, Mon’e Davis and Sam Gordon or actors with athletic backgrounds like Elisabeth Shue (who grew up playing soccer as the only girl on an all-boy’s team), the show could have become more than a logline that fails to deliver. Because it could have been a positive message for girls that gender stereotypes were made to be broken, on the field, in the classroom, and on TV.

If you want to see the right way to show a female succeeding on a boy’s team, watch the movie that Shue and her brother Andrew produced, Gracie.

Bella and the Bulldogs premieres Jan 17 at 8pm but airs in its regular timeslot Saturdays at 9pm ET/PT.

Hi Everyone I hope you like this one shot.

I was lying in bed feeling sorry for myself my: head was banging, my body was aching, and oh god, I felt sick. To make matters even worse, Edward and the rest of his family went on a three day hunting trip yesterday. Come on, I thought to myselfget a handle on yourself, there are only two days left until Edward comes home.

The whole family went on the hunting trip, as there was no Victoria to worry about and Alice was keeping tabs on the Volturi. She could see them coming from a mile away. All this, however, did not calm Edward's fears of leaving me alone. I had to promise three things before he finally agreed to go on this hunting trip with his family:

Agreement number one: To call Edward before I leave the house. Yeah, I know what you're thinking: over protective, right? I know he loves me, that's the only reason I agreed. Well, that and the fact he would have locked me in if I hadn't agreed.

Agreement number two: To do nothing remotely dangerous, which I agreed to straight away.

Agreement number three: To call each other three times a day, at least. I know it's a lot, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Plus, I love to hear my Edward's voice.

I was pulled out of my thoughts by a coughing fit, which caused my breathing to become heavy. Suddenly, my mobile, which Edward gave me, started to ring. Without thinking, I answered still breathing heavily.

'Hello?'

'Bella, what's wrong? Are you okay?' I could hear the fear and concern in his voice.

'Yeah, sorry about that. I ran for the phone,' I said. I knew I was telling a lie but I didn't want Edward to worry and cut his hunting trip short. It probably would have worked if I didn't have another coughing fit followed by throwing up by the side of my bed.(ew)

'Ahhhh god,' I moaned, feeling really sick. I flopping back down on my bed.

'Oh no, Bella! Were you just sick? I'm on my way home. Why would you not tell me, what if something happened to you?'

'What? No, Edward, you need to hunt. I'll be fine,' I said to Edward softy.

'Oh, no, you don't. I'm coming home to take care of you!' He said as sternly as possible but I could still hear the worry in his voice.

'Ok,' I said as I gave in. There was no reasoning with Edward while he was in 'Bella protection/worry mode'.

It had been a couple of hours since I got off the phone with Edward and I was feeling a lot worse.

I knew Edward would be home soon, so I tried to get out of bed so that I could have my human moment before Edward arrived.

But as soon as I walked no more than four steps, my vision blurred and my body fell limp to the ground. I moaned rather loudly as my body hit the floor. I tried to get up but I didn't have the strength to pull myself off the floor.

A few moments later, I heard my window being opened, followed by a confused voice.

'Bella, where are you, my love?' Edward called out; his voice was filled with worry.

'Edward,' I whispered, trying to find the strength to raise my head.

Bella

'Oh god, Bella, no! No, not my Bella! It's ok, love,' Edward sobbed dryly but his emotions were plain on his face: fear, concern, sadness, worry and last of all regret.

'If I didn't leave you here to go hunting, I would have been here to take care of you earlier, my love,' he said guiltily.

'I'm ok; can you please carry to my bed, please?' I knew from the moment the words left my mouth Edward would be more worried about me as I was very independent.

'Sleep, my love,' he told me, 'I'm going to take you to Carlisle'

'What? No! I don't need to go to Carlisle, I just need sleep'

'Bella, love, please go see Carlisle. I need to know what it is that's wrong with you,' he pleaded.

'Fine,' I moaned under my breath.

Edward smiled my favourite smile while jumping out the window with me in his arms. The wind blew through my hair as he ran. As the cold wind continued to assault me, Edward tightened his grip and pull me closer into his chest.

In no time at all, we were at the Cullen's manor.

'Carlisle!' Edward shouted, even though it was not needed with Carlisle's vampire hearing.

Carlisle must have told Edward where he was quieter than I could hearbecause before I could even blink, I was in Carlisle's office being laid down on the medical bed that was already set up. My guess it that Edward asked Carlisle to come back from the hunting trip early, too.

'Carlisle, Bella is really sick. She was nearly passed out on her bedroom floor, please help her!' Edward sounded panicked but I could not find anymore energy to speak.

'You know I will, son,' Carlisle said as he attempted to calm his frantic son.

After thirty minutes of Carlisle running different tests, Carlisle found the answer he was looking for.

'It's as I thought, Bella, you just a very bad cold. You need lots of rest and fluids,' Carlisle said with his charming smile.

'I'm going to give you some pain killers to help with the headache, but there's not really any other medication that I can give you, I'm afraid,' Carlisle stated.

'Thank you, Carlisle,' I said, smiling a shy smile. This seemed to calm Edward greatly.

One week later

I was woken up by a soft kiss on my forehead, 'It's time to get up, my love.'

Bulldogs

'No!' I moaned, turning my face to my pillow. I could hear Edward trying to stifle his soft laughter.

Where To Watch Bella And The Bulldogs

I had been feeling better for two days now. I could hear and see the relief in Edward disposition. After four days of Edward not letting me do anything but rest, I was feeling much better. In those four days, Edward had been with me all the time, much to Charlie's dismay.

Edward just refused to leave me while I was sick. The only time I was allowed out of bed was when I needed a human moment. Even then, Edward was just outside the door, just in case.

I finally I turned to see my Edward smiling a brilliant smile, 'I love you, my Bella, never scare me like that again,' Edward said as he kissed me passionately on the lips.

'I'll try not to. I love you, too, Edward,' I said as I kissed him again.
